At St Michael and All Angels Primary School, we believe that teaching a foreign language provides a valuable educational experience for our pupils. It helps develop valuable communication skills (both in speech and writing) and lays the foundation for future language learning. Language provision allows pupils to develop their linguistic competence and extend their understanding of how language works. We also believe learning another language raises awareness of the multilingual and multicultural world we live in and that it introduces an international dimension to pupils’ learning, giving them an insight into their own culture and those of others. The study of a language at our school provides all pupils with the foundation for learning further languages, equipping pupils to study and work in other countries.
